They will only run it once, and it must be approved by some "sponsoring" clergy or congregation. It might give the announcement wider exposure. "St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem will be hosting a Cursillo Beyond day / Ultreya on Saturday, May 31, from 10am to 1pm. Bring a potluck item to share for lunch. There will be a business meeting with election of officers at 9am, and all are invited to attend that." I attended the mananitas last Sunday morning for the first ever Oregon Lutheran Cursillo, held at Canby Grove. Very nice. The team was mostly from Califonia (with a couple of Virginians thrown in), and included a couple of Episcopalians!! As usual, a good time was being had by all. Pray for them as well. Should we, perhaps, invite those folks to the Salem Beyond Day? Thanks, Kevin Mallon St. Francis, Wilsonville April 2nd, 2008 DIOCESE OF OREGON E-BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS The E-Board publicizes programs and events consistent with the mission and ministry and established sources of authority of the Diocese of Oregon and the Episcopal Church, and that have the sponsorship of the official lay and clergy leadership of congregations and institutions of the Diocese. We appreciate submissions that have been previously reviewed by the clergy and/or wardens of the congregation. If possible, please limit the announcement to 50 words or less, in paragraph form. The Diocese of Oregon sends announcements every Tuesday afternoon except in special circumstances. We only run an announcement once due to the large volume of events. Most events are also placed on the website calendar of events. Past issues of the E-Board are available on the website, www.diocese-oregon.org under ?News and Information? ? E-Board Online. The deadline for weekly announcements is Monday at 4:00 pm. To submit an item, email marko@diocese-oregon.org. If you would like to receive the much anticipated weekly E-Board, have a new email address or be removed (heaven forbid!) from the E-Board list email Janice Lusk at: janicel@diocese-oregon.org. Message-ID: <004001c8b65a$368f9330$4101a8c0@yourw04gtxld67> Alpha is the Holy Trinity Brompton Parish (London) developed video course for inviting non-Christians to see what Jesus is all about. It has gone like gangbusters some places. Beth and I did it about 10 years ago and liked the videos. The presenter is very engaging. Kevin Mallon St. Francis, Wilsonville One Day Alpha Training Please join us for a one day training on how to launch a successful Alpha Course. This training will be held at Community of Hope Lutheran Church, 27817 SW Stafford Rd, Wilsonville, OR 97070. For more information please contact: Dave Deshazer / via email at davedeshazer@alphausa.org or by phone at 425-753-3514 / / 8:00am Saturday 17 May, Community of Hope Lutheran Church-Wilsonville, OR http://www.alphana.org/group/group.aspx?id=1000022915 ?Out of England comes an exciting new program which is moving churches around the world from maintenance to mission. Alpha is a well-designed, implementable program that addresses the basic questions of life for the churched and unchurched alike. Through Alpha, Jesus Christ is capturing the hearts and minds of an ever-growing number of persons. The course meets the vital test of being both open and faithful ? welcoming of all, while presenting the gospel message with clarity and power.? George Gallup, Jr. Chairman, The George H. Gallup International Institute "I see Alpha as a strategic tool, sensitively crafted to address today's secularized seekers with satisfying answers to their spiritual hunger. I recommend Alpha to all pastors wanting to equip their people for new-millennium effectiveness in evangelism." Jack W. Hayford President, The Kings Seminary ?The experience of our congregation with Alpha has been profound. People have come to new faith, older Christians have been renewed, and all those involved are wildly enthusiastic about it!? Dr. Roberta Hestenes Former Senior Pastor Solana Beach Presbyterian Church, Solana Beach, California ?In recent years Nicky Gumbel has helped millions of people consider the claims of Jesus Christ in fresh and stimulating ways through a course he put together called Alpha. It is in 130 countries throughout the world. It has swept Europe, Africa and increasingly the US and very few people alive have done this much to help people far from God draw nearer to Him ? and many find Him.? Bill Hybels Senior Pastor, Willow Creek Community Church Chairman of the Board, Willow Creek Association ?The Alpha course is a most engaging way of passing on the basics of Christianity. It is a tool for evangelism and nurture that I highly recommend.? J.I. Packer, Professor of Theology, Regent College, Vancouver "Alpha is a strategic tool for Christians of all stripes -- be they Protestant, Catholic or Orthodox. Alpha does three things that all effective evangelism training must do. It models how to Get the Story Straight, how to Get the Story Out, and how to Take the Story In. I recommend it highly!" Rebecca Manley Pippert Author of Out of the Salt Shaker We all have a God-shaped space within. Alpha opens the door to that space and is a starting point for the sharing, caring, praying community which is exemplary of the Church in action.? Desmond Tutu Archbishop Emeritus "It's great to see how Alpha has been used to reach people with the good news of Jesus Christ, who wouldn't normally come to church. This resource is very complementary to helping seekers connect with The Purpose Driven Life."
