She worked on the Spiritual Team for the Cursillo in Medford last year. If you haven't gotten to meet her - send her a note anyway - she's one special lady! She is looking to set up a website through CaringBridge.com...and I'll keep you posted when that is done. Anne Dear Family and Friends, Yesterday I saw the oncologist for the first time and had even more tests and scans scheduled before chemo starts on Monday in Mount Shasta. I do not want to have to repeat yesterday's trip to Redding very often, but the Cancer Care Consultants are only in Mt. Shasta on Mondays. Yesterday was more uncomfortable because before leaving the house at 6:45 am I had fallen very hard on the floor of my study with a preliminary bash of my back against my dad's old desk. My how the bruise begins to blossom today!! I do not look forward to CT and PET scans on Thursday with that on my back. Information from the oncologist: I have a form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma, with diffuse large cell B Cells. It is an intermediate to high grade tumor which is aggressive, but curable. (The surgeon couldn't find any of the lymph nodes to biopsy closer to the surface than the mass in the retroperiteneum (sp?). The cancer is probably at a bulky 2 B stage--I have symptoms--the PET and more CT scan will give more information. I will probably need 6-8 cycles of R-CHOP chemo, administered every three weeks with a formula that is tried and true. Then each Tuesday I get a $500 shot to combat any infection. She mentioned radiation but I don't know where that fits in. I will lose my hair--an inconvenient time of year for it. On Friday Dr. Bryner, the surgeon, will put in a porta-cath. Some of you may be receiving this kind of message from me for the first time. I am just learning (with my sister Jan's help) how to create group lists and can't even find the name by name list I used for other messages. If my info bewilders you, I can check the sent file to send an earlier message or talk to you by phone. I am quite weak--have lost 20-30 pounds in the last five or six months, most since August. I am still attending church in Medford each week, but now I think about ways to reduce the stress and length of the trip. Friends have been a big help, but the angel has been my sister Jan who drove down from Vancouver, WA on Friday after fixing a big turkey dinner on Thursday. She helped open the futon for her bed, pushed me to toss many papers in boxes and piles in that room and fixed most of the meals all weekend from the food she brought. Then I got backrubs every day! We attended the Christmas parade in Yreka and went to church in Medford on Sunday. Jan cleaned my house and took down the clothes line I had strung after the dryer quit a few weeks ago. Before she left early Monday morning she took two rockers I really didn't have room for so my housemate with a recovering replaced knee and I can get around much more safely. Now I can think about Christmas--Jan took down the Christmas decorations box from the high shelf I would never have managed. I will continue to keep in touch, especially if anything changes. Thank you for your prayers and help. Please continue to keep me in mind and prayer. Love, Judy Z. **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. She has spent time in a facility for this and it has not helped. She is on medications. Physically, she is on thyroid medication and has been tested for food allergies. Becky will be having special tests done at OHSU on her brain to try and determine what part is in trauma. (something new) In the meantime, she is a mess. She just called me and asked for prayers. She has been on her knees almost constantly the past 2 days praying for relief and release from this. Says that she feels like she and Jennings are under attack. Jennings is at home and has re-injured his ankle that he had surgery on a year and a half ago. He, also, has severe muscle pain in his thigh. Not sure what from. Becky is asking all prayer warriors to please help. Let us all hold them up to the Lord asking for health, healing and peace. On Thursday I learned that I will be receiving my chemo in Redding,( 98 miles away), not Mount Shasta because of Medi-Cal regulations. Therefore, I begin the process this Wednesday, continue in Redding on Thursday and get the expensive shot in Yreka on Friday. I hope to stay as often as possible at the Mercy Hospitality Center next to the hospital. Friends will probably bring me down and then pick me up again on Thursday. The American Cancer Society will pay up to $400 per year for lodging and reimbursement for mileage. I am hearing about other funds as I go along. The Medi-Cal approval has not yet come through. The porta-cath will be installed on Tuesday afternoon. Thanks for your notes and encouragement. I will probably only respond occasionally. God be with you all. I was packed and ready to leave at 9:30 am but my doctor did not arrive at my door until 1:30 pm with a headache and no lunch. When she finally released me and got the discharge finished, it was about 3:30 pm but I am glad to be home. However, my driving angel Jean Krueger, and I head back to Redding tomorrow morning for a 9:30 am shot with Dr. Collins. That will take 5 minutes but must be tomorrow and must be there. I responded well to the therapy so I am probably feeling better now than I did when I went into the hospital. They control pain and nausea better than I had on my own. Then I was so zonked from the anti-nausea med that I didn't want to read, do puzzles or knit. (And I was still vomiting!!) In the hospital I read two books and started and almost completed a new knitting project. My other angel this week has been Jan Boster who gave me pedicure and manicure before I entered the hospital and cleaned my house and changed my bed while I was gone. Her husband, Ted Albert, cleaned my eaves so people standing at my door will not be dripped on. Such gifts are hard to ask for but are priceless to living comfortably! They are also arranging lots of food for me. I am still not much of a cook and my interest in eating was a a low ebb. I also thank the Redding area clergy, organized by Ted who visited and called regularly. Ted also sent me flowers from St. Barnabas in Mt. Shasta. I am feeling very well cared for. Please continue praying for me, especially that during the next 21 days I can start getting a handle on paper work and other aspects of ordinary life. God bless you all.
